A steps-to-calories calculator estimates energy expenditure from step count by first estimating distance, then applying body weight, activity type, duration, and intensity. It is more useful than a fixed “calories per step” rule because step length and body weight can change the result substantially.
The calculator uses your step count and step length to estimate distance. If you enter duration or pace, it uses a MET-based estimate: calories equal MET value times body weight in kilograms times duration in hours. If you do not enter time data for jogging or running, the tool may show a distance-based running estimate as an approximation, not a lab measurement.

Distance = steps x step length; Calories = MET x body weight (kg) x duration (hours)
Step length controls estimated distance. Body weight and MET intensity control the calorie estimate. The low-to-high output is a practical uncertainty range, not a statistical confidence interval.
